Assessing The Performance Of Banks In Algeria And Tunisia: A Panel Data Analysis From 2000 To 2020

Abstract

This research examines the relationship between performance indicators and both internal and external environmental factors, employing an unbalanced panel data analysis on a sample of 26 banks from Algeria and Tunisia over the period 2000-2020. The findings reveal that capital adequacy, asset quality, and liquidity are negatively associated with the performance of commercial banks, while management quality positively influences performance. Additionally, in terms of external factors, gross domestic product (GDP) and inflation were found to have no substantial impact on the performance of commercial banks in both Algeria and Tunisia.
