Abstract: After the French colonial era, Algeria inherited a fragile economy characterized by a lack of institutions, management capabilities, and financial and natural resources. Algeria surpassed that stage by nationalizing its wealth at the end of the sixties and early seventies of the twentieth century, to be the main pillar of the national economy, despite several attempts adopted to rely on more than one sector as an unsuccessful experiment. However, the advantage that kept the national economy running is oil rent which mainly focuses on the hydrocarbon sector, which represents most of the export earnings. The foreign trade sector has enormous potential that is no less important than the rest of all other productive sectors, taking into account the reciprocal relationship between them, as productive sectors activate foreign trade, and in turn, it raises the pace of production, which would attribute to achieve the goals of diversifying the national economy. Algeria has good and solid political and diplomatic relations with almost all African countries, thus it is looking forward to fostering its economic role across the continent, as the vital geostrategic sphere. In light of this, depending on the foreign trade sector is one of the pillars relied upon in order to reach a desired goal through access to African markets with the aim of boosting non-hydrocarbon exports.
