An investigation into the phenological parameters of the leaves and rhizome growth of Posidonia oceanica was carried out at a depth of 18 meters in Bou Ismail Bay (central coast of Algeria) between March and May 2024. The seawater in the study area was characterized by a suspended particulate matter of approximately 37.35 ± 6.49 g/L, a relative abundance of particulate organic matter of around 38.5% with statistically significant spatial variation (p < 0.05). The mean leaf length is 419.57 ± 186.52 mm (n = 60; p < 0.0001), indicating the good health of the P. oceanica meadows. Leaves increase in width as they move outwards from the rhizome. Overall leaf area and total leaf biomass are 519.63 ± 219.90 cm² and 1.21 ± 0.80 g d.w., respectively, with local differences strongly linked to sampling periods. Additionally, 55.24±19.68% of leaves have lost their apex due to herbivore grazing. Furthermore, 0.74±1.61 mg of epiphyte per cm² of leaf is recorded. A higher number of sheaths per cycle (12) was found at Kouali in 2016, corresponding to the highest growth rate recorded (9.25 mm/year).
