In order to enhance the value of aquatic biomass from the Algerian coast, we evaluated the antimicrobial activities of a marine algae collected from the Algerian coast. The species Sargassum vulgare was harvested in the Tipaza region (Kouali Beach). The extraction was performed using maceration in a water-ethanol mixture. The results indicate a crude extract yield of 12.9%. The antibacterial activity was assessed using the agar diffusion method. The results showed a complete absence of inhibitory effect against the seven tested strains: Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 700603, Klebsiella oxytoca, and Enterobacter. However, the extract exhibited antifungal activity, with mycelial growth inhibition percentages of 57.14%, 63.63%, and 64.28% against Fusarium equiseti, Umbelopsis ramanniana, and Penicillium expansum, respectively.
