Scientific Integrity In The Era Of Generative Artificial Intelligence And Digital Publishing Shifts: Challenges Of Automated Writing And Predatory Journals

Authors : Ghaddab Yamina .

Abstract

Scientific integrity constitutes a fundamental pillar of academic work; its presence enhances the credibility of scholarly output and strengthens trust and collaboration among researchers. However, the rapid transformations reshaping the academic landscape—driven by generative artificial intelligence and automated writing tools, alongside shifts in digital publishing and the proliferation of predatory journals—have introduced new challenges to scientific integrity, compounding longstanding concerns such as academic plagiarism. As AI-generated text increasingly mimics human writing, and as publishing platforms lacking rigorous peer-review standards continue to expand, a critical reassessment of strategies to counter academic misconduct has become essential. Chief among these strategies is the promotion of awareness and the cultivation of a robust value system that instills firm standards guiding researchers toward scientific integrity, discouraging the unethical use of artificial intelligence and publication in predatory journals, given the scientific, moral, and material harms such practices entail.
