Social entrepreneurship is considered one of the most recent concepts to emerge in both the academic and official spheres, despite the earlier existence of diverse practices. Its emergence can be traced back to the early 1990s as a response to the failure of the market and state institutions to meet collective demands and address social problems with a social dimension. It involves the integration of social responsibility into economic activities, making the economy more humane in terms of health, employment, education and finance. This research paper aims to shed light on the nature of this phenomenon and highlight some pioneering models, considering that this phenomenon is relatively unknown in our Algerian context and is experiencing slow growth.
