This article examines the conflation of the energy transition and the climate emergency, demonstrating that CO2, whose role is reduced to that of a greenhouse gas by the dominant narrative, remains an essential atmospheric nutrient for the biosphere. It draws attention to the contradictions inherent in punitive environmental policies that hinder development without effectively decarbonising the economy. For Algeria, a sovereign transition focused on its natural resources and geopolitical commitments, represents the most appropriate pragmatic choice. Drawing on a qualitative, documentary approach, the study cross-references academic, institutional, and statistical sources to test these claims against empirical evidence.
