Due to the rise and spread of corruption cases, Algeria adopted a legal framework to prevent corruption and limit its harmful effects on institutions and society. Law No. 06-01 was a step because it established the framework for combating corruption and created the National Authority for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption. However, its role remained mostly consultative, limited to proposing policies, issuing recommendations, and supervising measures without enforcement powers. Under the 2020 Constitution, the High Authority for Transparency, Prevention and Fight against Corruption was created and regulated by Law No. 22-08, with powers in investigation, coordination, transparency, and oversight. Therefore, replacing the former authority reflects a qualitative shift toward a more effective and rigorous anti-corruption policy.
