Authors : Daoudi Djamel .

Abstract

This study aims to clarify the legal status of combatants under international humanitarian law. The latter distinguishes between two categories of combatants. The first category comprises persons to whom the status of lawful combatants is granted, namely, members of regular armed forces and members of quasiregular armed forces, who enjoy a set of legally guaranteed rights. The second category is denied, by international humanitarian law, a lawful character because of its nature and the objectives it seeks to achieve.
