A large number of the world's languages face an increasing risk of extinction, as the number of speakers continues to decline steadily. People are forced or voluntarily migrating from one language to another, thereby threatening their cultural heritage. This article explores the concept of linguistic security in detail, examining the most important criteria used by the United Nations and UNESCO to determine a languages vitality. These criteria include: the transmission of the language across generations; the absolute number of speakers as a percentage of the total population; the diversity of the language's uses; its use in new media and other fields; and the availability of language teaching and literacy materials. The study seeks to determine whether Arabic is stable and linguistically secure or whether it faces varying degrees of endangerment. In other words, is Arabic facing a struggle for influence or a struggle for survival?
