Abstract: The mosque, Sabil, and kuttab of Sīdī Mohammad Al-‘Osaylī in Fayoum city, are considered one of the most important service complexes in the city during the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries. This research investigates the evidence for this from contemporary sources that confirm the role of the mosque and the kuttab, where artist Youssef Bey Wahbi studied. It utilizes Ministry of Awqaf records detailing its original architectural boundaries, endowments, and maintenance funding prior to its destruction by an air raid on November 12, 1941. The resulting media attention prompted rapid governmental restoration. Consequently, this research documents Al-‘Osaylī complex's history as an integral component of Fayoum's civilizational memory, chronicles in all endowment transactions related to it during the 19th century AD, and -for the first time- validates local oral traditions regarding the wartime aerial bombardment that destroyed half of the mosque building. The mosque, Sabil, and kuttab complex of Sīdī Mohammad Al-‘Osaylī, situated in Fayoum city, is considered one of the most important service complexes in the city during the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries. This research investigates the evidence for this - relying on descriptive-historical and analytical methods - based on scattered information from contemporary historical sources regarding the role of the mosque and the kuttab, where the artist Youssef Bey Wahbi studied. It also utilizes the detailed descriptions found in Ministry of Awqaf (awqāf) documents regarding its architectural condition, specifically its boundaries and area before they were reduced, as well as an inventory of its endowments, funding sources for its services, and the maintenance of its structures, until the mosque was ruined due to the air raid on the city of Fayoum on November 12, 1941. The media momentum that followed this event prompted the Ministry of Awqaf to quickly renovate it. Consequently, this research documents the history of the Al-‘Osaylī mosque building and its annexes as an integral part of the historical and civilizational memory of Fayoum. It chronicles all endowment transactions related to it during the 19th century AD, and, for the first time, validates the true nature of the popular narrative circulated by the elderly in the region, which claims that enemy aircraft destroyed half of the mosque during one of the wars.
