Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive decline, memory impairment, and neuronal loss, representing a major global health challenge. Current therapeutic strategies, including acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, provide only symptomatic relief and are often associated with adverse effects, highlighting the need for safer and more effective alternatives. In this context, plant-derived bioactive compounds have gained considerable attention due to their diverse pharmacological properties and multi-target mechanisms of action. This review explores the potential of natural metabolites, including polyphenols, alkaloids, terpenoids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, in the prevention and management of AD. These compounds exhibit neuroprotective effects through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-amyloidogenic, and anticholinesterase activities, as well as modulation of key cellular signaling pathways. Additionally, the role of modern approaches such as metabolomics, in silico screening, artificial intelligence, and integrated multi-omics strategies in accelerating the discovery and characterization of bioactive molecules is discussed. Collectively, these advances highlight the promising potential of natural compounds as innovative and safer therapeutic agents for Alzheimer’s disease, paving the way for the development of more effective and personalized treatment strategies.
