This article addresses one of the most prominent surgical medical practices in the rural Aurès: orthopedic surgery, with the aim of highlighting the passed-down treatment methods and the role they play in the healthcare system of this community. In this context, we will explore the historical origins of medicine in the region, along with the influence of social and geographical factors on its development. We will rely on analyzing various scientific references that address the foundations of traditional medical and surgical practices, focusing on the character of the practicing physician and the places of their activity. Additionally, we will present the types of surgeries related to bones, such as trepanation, bone excision, and fracture treatment and we will highlight the treatment methods and the surgical instruments used. Therefore, this research seeks to assess the effectiveness of these traditional medical practices and their connection to the intellectual movement of ancient medicine, which contributes to highlighting their importance in the study of history of healthcare in rural Aurès of Algeria.
