Electronic Psychological Counseling: Concepts And Theoretical Models.

Authors : Hamouda Salima . Ramdani Rania .

Abstract

The article discusses the challenges psychologists face due to rapid digitalization and the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring adaptation to digital tools while maintaining therapy quality and client privacy. It presents types of electronic counseling, such as video sessions, text messaging, and phone calls, and explains the psychological theories behind them, including cognitive-behavioral theory and dissociation theory. Telepsychology improves access for remote or disabled clients but raises concerns about replicating emotional depth in therapeutic relationships. The article also addresses risks and challenges, including limited training, lack of digital tools, ethical issues around confidentiality, and difficulties managing high-risk cases. Successful e-counseling depends on effective, understanding-based dialogue, which can be affected by technology gaps or practitioners’ digital skills.
