When discussing the heritage of any region, the first thing that comes to mind is traditional crafts, which are considered a form of folk art that reflects an authentic image of people’s daily lives and the difficult conditions they endured. These crafts represent work that individuals preserved and mastered, allowing it to be passed down from ancestors to descendants, who continued the path, professionalized these trades, and excelled in them. Among the crafts that have maintained a strong presence throughout the various historical periods in Algeria is wool weaving, especially in rural areas. In this context, the region of Hamza (Bouira Province) deserves particular mention, as it has accumulated a significant heritage in this field. This is largely due to the availability of raw materials—primarily wool—resulting from the widespread practice of sheep breeding. Furthermore, the social diversity of its inhabitants, who speak both Arabic and Amazigh, has contributed to the richness of customs and traditions. This diversity is reflected in the variety of woven items, characterized by knotted and edged stitches, and decorated with diverse shapes and colors, designed to meet various daily needs. This craft also embodies the resilience of rural women, who, despite not attending formal art schools, have proven themselves to be truly creative artists. They skillfully produced essential household items such as blankets, bedding, and clothing, while preserving their authentic artistic identity. Moreover, they transmitted this heritage to their daughters, ensuring its continuity across generations.
