Youth Language And Its Forms Of Expression Amid Socio-cultural Transformations In Algeria: A Socio-anthropological Approach

Authors : Barkat Houssem Eddine .

Abstract

This study seeks to formulate a precise and in-depth conceptualization of youth language by identifying its main characteristics and uncovering its various manifestations and meanings. It also aims to clarify the relationship between youth language and youth culture, considering them as two interrelated phenomena. The study has yielded noteworthy findings, most notably that youth language is encoded, abbreviated, and hybrid, comprising both explicit and implicit elements. It circulates at both real and virtual levels and is primarily associated with an emerging youth culture. Moreover, it contains a considerable degree of symbolic violence as well as taboo-related vocabulary.
