Abstract

With the increasing social complexity and the dominance of materialism, as a result of the endless human aspiration to live the best life, a set of problems have emerged, perhaps the most important of which is the housing problem. The population growth accompanying the tremendous development in all fields is the most important reason for its occurrence in third world countries, specifically in Egypt. This problem has emerged, which prompted those in charge of the government there to find a solution to it, in light of the scarcity of resources and capabilities. At that time, the brilliant engineer Hassan Fathy announced an initiative entitled "Look at the mud under your feet and build", inspired by the heritage buildings found in Upper Egypt. This project had a great impact in highlighting the role of heritage in driving the wheel of social development.
