Arabic poetry is considered one of the most prominent cultural manifestations in the Arab heritage; however, it was not merely an instrument of artistic expression, but also an informal economic sector wherein poets employed various strategies for income generation through royal patronage, poetic markets, literary competition, and commissioned satire. This research aims to analyze the monetization of poetry from an economic and entrepreneurial perspective, highlighting the concept of cultural entrepreneurship in traditional societies, where poets acted as investors in their talents, capable of transforming creativity into financial and social gains. The research draws upon theories of cultural economics and symbolic capital, as developed by Pierre Bourdieu (1993), to understand how poets managed to build a literary brand for themselves and leverage their fame to acquire wealth and political influence. The study reviews the mechanisms of generating income through poetry across different eras, starting from pre-Islamic markets such as the Ukaz market, to the courts of the Umayyad and Abbasid caliphs, which transformed poets into pivotal figures in the political decision-making process. The research is based on primary historical sources such as Tabaqat Fuhul al-Shu'ara' (Classes of the Master Poets) by Ibn Sallam al-Jumahi (edited by Mahmoud Shaker, 1966) and Fi al-Shi'r al-Jahili (On Pre-Islamic Poetry) by Taha Hussein (1926). This is in addition to recent studies published in JSTOR, the British Library, and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BnF), with the aim of analyzing the economic transformations that occurred in Arabic poetry and comparing the monetization of poetry in ancient times with modern cultural industries. The findings demonstrate that poets were not merely creators, but rather economic actors within a complex cultural ecosystem. They utilized poetry as a means of negotiation and as a tool for building commercial and political relationships, placing them in a position that can be interpreted through the concepts of cultural entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the research highlights the parallels between the monetization of poetry and modern cultural industries, such as the publishing industry, artistic production, and digital marketing. This reinforces the significance of studying Arabic poetry not only as a literary heritage but also as a cultural economic sector that contributed to shaping the structural foundation of traditional Arab societies. The research recommends the necessity of re-reading Arabic poetry from the perspective of cultural economics and creative entrepreneurship. It advocates for drawing upon the lessons learned from the experiences of ancient poets in creative brand management, cultural marketing, and the building of sustainable economies based on arts and literature.
