Authors : Sid Hassane . Hadji Saida .

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between neighborhood urban ecology and crime patterns in Tebessa. Drawing on ecological criminology theories, we analyzed official crime statistics (2016–2020) issued by the Tebessa Security Directorate across five neighborhood types. Based on 6,842 recorded incidents, the results showed clear spatial concentration of crime: drug offenses were highest in dense traditional neighborhoods (39%), property crimes were concentrated in under-serviced neighborhoods (37.6%), and smuggling was most prevalent in neighborhoods closest to the Tunisian border (33%). Modern planned neighborhoods recorded lower levels of crime. Overall, the findings indicate a strong association between crime patterns and housing quality, infrastructure adequacy, and geographic location..
