ومع ذلك فإن الطبيعة المعقدة للحدود الدولية غالباً ما تضع "مبدأ احترام السيادة الإقليمية" على المحك، خاصة عند تداخل الاختصاصات أو ظهور ثروات طبيعية في مناطق التماس،إن حسم هذه النزاعات أمام القضاء الدولي لا يتوقف عند السندات القانونية الشكلية فحسب، بل يمتد ليفحص "الممارسة الفعلية" للسيادة، ومدى استمراريتها، والنية القاطعة في التصرف كصاحب حق، وهو ما تجلى بوضوح في معالجة محكمة العدل الدولية للنزاع بين دولتي قطر والبحرين حول الجزر والمناطق البحرية. international law is established on the fundamental premise that territory is the physical sphere within which a state exercises its full and exclusive sovereignty, serving as the primary benchmark of its independence against external powers. However, the complex nature of disputes often put the "principle of respect for territorial sovereignty" to the test, particularly when jurisdictions overlap or natural resources emerge in border zones. Resolving these disputes before international tribunals does not rely solely on formal legal titles; it extends to examining the "effective practice" of sovereignty, its continuity, and the clear intention to act as a sovereign. This was vividly demonstrated in the International Court of Justice’s handling of the dispute between Qatar and Bahrain
