Towards A Standardized Rubric For Evaluating Dissertations In Didactics: The Case Of The English Department, Blida 2 University

Authors : Benbellal Abla .

Abstract

In higher education, well-designed rubrics ensure transparency, consistency, and quality in students’ assessment. In the English Department, at Blida 2 University, the rubric used for over seven years to assess Master’s dissertations in Didactics exhibits several limitations including a holistic nature, vague performance descriptors and lack of alignment with academic standards. This research proposes an analytic, standards-based rubric that offers clear criteria and detailed descriptors for each dissertation section. The design process involved discussions with teachers and students, content analysis of the existing rubric, and a review of established dissertation writing frameworks. The proposed rubric is expected to enhance fairness and objectivity, and support students’ academic writing development
