Recent trends in teaching English to EFL learners call for an integrated method that brings together distinct academic subjects within the constraints of teaching academic language skills. The use of short literary texts to emphasize and foster the cultural aspects of the English language is one of the most preferred and valid strategies in EFL settings, due to its potency and potential efficiency in providing an authentic model for language teaching and learning. Through an integrated approach, EFL teachers can use a short-story-oriented strategy (SSOS) to promote language development, foster cultural competence, and improve students’ cognitive skills.
