Population Growth And Food Security In Algeria ; An Econometric Study (1980-2024)

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the relationship between food security and population growth in Algeria using linear regression based on the ordinary least squares method, on annual data from 1980 to 2024. We used data on the annual population growth rate and annual wheat production (in tons) as an indicator of food security. The results showed a significant negative relationship between the population growth rate and food security; however, this relationship was not strong, indicating the presence of other variables that also affect food security in Algeria.
