Abstract

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف إشكالية تعريف الدين من خلال تحليل نقد طلال أسد للمنهج التأويلي لكليفورد غيرتز. ينطلق البحث من فرضية أن الاختلاف بين المنهجين يعكس منظورًا معرفيًا مرتبطًا بظروف وحدود إنتاج المعرفة الحديثة. يقدم غيرتز الدين كنظام رمزي يُولّد المعنى، بينما يُفكك أسد هذا التصور من خلال وضع مفهوم الدين ضمن سياقاته التاريخية وعلاقته ببنى السلطة التي شكلت أفقَه الغربي. وتخلص الدراسة إلى أن إسهام أسد يكمن في التشكيك في شروط إمكانية التعريف نفسها، من خلال نقد الافتراضات الضمنية المتعلقة بعالمية وحيادية النموذج الغربي. This study aims to explore the problem of defining religion by analyzing Talal Asad’s critique of Clifford Geertz’s interpretive approach. The research is based on the premise that the disagreement between the two approaches reflects an epistemological perspective linked to the conditions and limits of modern knowledge production. Geertz presents religion as a symbolic system that generates meaning, whereas Asad deconstructs this conception by situating the concept of religion within its historical contexts and its relation to the structures of power that shaped its Western horizon. The study concludes that Asad’s contribution lies in questioning the very conditions of the possibility of definition itself, through a critique of the implicit assumptions regarding the universality and neutrality of the Western paradigm.
