This paper develops a conceptual framework for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into Islamic banking with the aim of enhancing operational efficiency, risk management, and Sharia governance. Using a descriptive–analytical approach based on a systematic review of the literature, the study examines how key AI technologies, particularly machine learning, natural language processing, and intelligent automation, can support core banking functions. The study is guided by a set of research hypotheses that link AI adoption to improvements in efficiency, risk assessment, and Sharia compliance. The findings indicate that AI can reduce information asymmetry, strengthen compliance monitoring, and support more accurate decision-making in profit-and-loss sharing arrangements. However, the analysis also highlights significant ethical and governance challenges related to algorithmic opacity, bias, and regulatory uncertainty. The paper contributes to the literature by proposing an integrated conceptual framework that aligns AI capabilities with the objectives of Maqasid al-Sharia, offering practical and policy-relevant insights for responsible technological adoption in Islamic banking
