This study addresses the issue of language delay in children from a developmental speech-therapy perspective, tracing the trajectory from typical language acquisition to manifestations of language and speech disorders. It examines the course of language development across the pre-linguistic and linguistic stages, highlighting the cognitive, auditory, and environmental factors that influence this process. The study further distinguishes between learning difficulties, language disorders, and speech disorders in terms of conceptual definition, etiology, and clinical manifestations. The findings suggest that language delay may serve as an indicator of receptive and/or expressive impairment requiring comprehensive, multidimensional assessment. The study concludes by emphasizing the necessity of early intervention within an integrative framework involving speech therapists, psychologists, and educators to support language development and enhance the child’s academic and social adjustment.
