Abstract

Changing Roles among the Elderly Notable People in Jordanian Society Abstract The study aimed to identify the change in the roles the elderly notable people play in Jordanian society. The researcher used the anthropological approach in his study and took his observations through participation and interviews with the purposeful search sample (50 notable from Irbid Governorate). The researcher concluded that, most importantly, the tribal notables of the elderly in Jordanian society have played important roles in their tribes: a social reformer, a leader of the tribe, and the House of the Great was the house of the tribe in good times and bad. Now, with rapid technological development and globalization, their role has decreased and has even faded in favour. The need to take care of the elderly due to the services they have provided in the past to their tribes called for increasing their social integration in society.
