Authors : Kesri Mounira . Afif Hana .

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reality of the development of Algerian banking performance indicators during global crises, through the analysis of banking sector data for the period 2007–2022. The focus was on three major crises: the 2008 global financial crisis, the 2014 oil price crisis, and the 2020 global health crisis. The study relied on the analysis of key performance indicators such as profitability indicators, asset quality, solvency, as well as liquidity ratios. The study concluded several results, the most important of which is that banking performance indicators develop in varying ways depending on the nature of the crises. The 2014 oil crisis was the most impactful due to the heavy reliance on public financing, the study recommends the necessity of diversifying the sources of financing of the economy to reduce dependence on changes in oil prices, and establishing early warning tools to enhance the ability to forecast crises.
