The Other Daughter by nnie Ernaux explores the upheaval caused by the discovery of a sister who died before her birth, revealing a profound identity-related anxiety. Through a letter addressed to this absent sister, Ernaux questions what it means to be "the other," the one who comes as a replacement. The family secret destabilizes the self, generating guilt, feelings of illegitimacy, and a sense of substitution. This study examines how such anxiety arises from secrecy, how the letter becomes a space of impossible address, and how writing transforms this intimate wound into a process of meaning-making and self-reconstruction
