This article aims to analyze war metaphors in Algerian sports media and to exmine the linguistic and cognitive mechanisms that frame the representation of sport on the media within a conflictual horizon marked by military overtones. It’s draws on George Lakoff and Mark Johanson’s theory of conceptual metaphors, which considers metaphor not merely as a rhetorical device but as a cognitive mechanism that structures thought and reshapes the representation of reality. From this perspective, the match is transformed into a “battle” or “clash,” the player into a “warrior,” the coach into a “general,” and victory into a “decisive triumph.” Such lexical choices are therefore not simple stylistic embellishments; rather, they construct a “rhetoric of war” that intensifies the dramatic and performative dimension of sports media discourse and contributes to the normalization of violence.
