Ecotourism As A Mechanism For Sustainable Tourism Development In Africa: Models And Promising Experiences

Abstract
Abstract: Ecotourism is considered one of the most significant modern tourism models that integrate environmental protection with sustainable tourism development, particularly in Africa, a continent endowed with unique natural and human resources. This study aims to highlight the role of ecotourism as a mechanism for promoting sustainable tourism development in Africa by analyzing the relationship between the environment and tourism, and by reviewing key environmental planning tools such as carrying capacity, sustainability indicators, and environmental impact assessment. The research also examines the role of governments and the private sector in supporting this tourism model, with a focus on leading examples such as Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, and South Africa, which have successfully transformed natural reserves into sustainable economic assets that actively involve local communities in their management. The study concludes that ecotourism represents a strategic option for African countries to achieve a balance between environmental conservation and the enhancement of economic and social development. الملخص: تعد السياحة البيئية أحد أهم الأنماط السياحية الحديثة التي تجمع بين حماية البيئة وتحقيق التنمية السياحية المستدامة، خاصة في القارة الإفريقية التي تزخر بمقومات طبيعية وبشرية فريدة. وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إبراز دور السياحة البيئية كآلية لتعزيز التنمية السياحية المستدامة في إفريقيا، من خلال تحليل العلاقة بين البيئة والسياحة، واستعراض أدوات التخطيط البيئي مثل الطاقة الاستيعابية، مؤشرات الاستدامة وتقييم الآثار البيئية. كما يتناول البحث دور الحكومات والقطاع الخاص في دعم هذا النمط السياحي، مع تسليط الضوء على نماذج رائدة مثل رواندا، كينيا، تنزانيا، ناميبيا وجنوب إفريقيا، التي نجحت في تحويل المحميات الطبيعية إلى موارد اقتصادية مستدامة تشرك المجتمعات المحلية في إدارتها. وخلصت الدراسة إلى أن السياحة البيئية تمثل خيارًا استراتيجيا للدول الإفريقية من أجل تحقيق توازن بين الحفاظ على البيئة وتعزيز التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية.
