This study aims at investigating the philosophical concept of ‘subjectivity in exile’ to discuss how Edward Said developed the idea of subjectivity through his own experience of exile. Examining his selected books, this article demonstrates that living away from home influenced Said’s way of thinking about the self and identity. His writing suggests that the self is not something fixed but something that changes as people move between places, languages, and cultures. Implementing poststructuralist and philosophical approach, the paper concluded that Said connects subjectivity with awareness, memory, and the ongoing search to find meaning in a world shaped by loss and distance. For him, exile offers a way to understand subjectivity in relation the outside world with openness.
