Acute Intestinal Occlusion Revealing A Left Paraduodenal Hernia: Case Report

Authors : Iaiche Achour Louiza .

Abstract

Internal hernias are relatively rare, representing less than 1% of abdominal hernias, with paraduodenal hernia being the most common. Left paraduodenal hernia is a very rare condition that can constitute a surgical emergency. Its diagnosis is complex due to its nonspecific presentation and the wide variety of possible symptoms, requiring close monitoring. Intestinal obstruction is rarely the reason for consultation. Computed tomography is the gold standard for definitive diagnosis. Currently, surgical repair, either via open or laparoscopic approach, is the best therapeutic option. We describe a case of a left paraduodenal hernia diagnosed following an intestinal obstruction in a 27-year-old patient who was treated in our surgical department.
