The Relationship Between The Absence Of Vocational Units And The Reluctance Of Secondary School Students To Pursue Vocational Education (a Field Study On Idhna Region)

Authors : Farajallah Jamal .

Abstract

A study at Mahmoud Darwish Basic School in Idhna explored why 47 10th-grade vocational students hesitated to continue to 11th grade. The main reasons were a lack of local advanced vocational training, social stigma against vocational education, and the time/cost of commuting to distant schools. Most students would enroll if local 11th-grade programs were available, indicating the issue isn't a lack of interest in vocational training, but rather a shortage of accessible options. The study recommends the Ministry of Education establish local 11th and 12th-grade vocational programs, improve facilities, and collaborate with local businesses to address this "supply" problem and enhance opportunities.
