Do Empirical Studies Provide Real Measurements For Islam Religiosity?

Authors : Zirari Brahim . Lakhdari Boulenouar .

Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the Islamic measurement literature in terms of the available religiosity scales. The evaluation focused on five criteria including the approach of the contribution, the field of study, conceptualization and definition, sample representation, and validity and scrutiny. The authors systematically reviewed, summarized, and analysed the available measures to determine their quality and highlight areas for improvement. The findings identified the need of valid conceptualization and definition of items from an Islamic perspective, define Islam from a multidimensional context, collect data from unbiased data, use valid sample representation, and give more importance to the translation from and to the Arabic language. This work has contributed a new discourse to the body of knowledge in light of the Islam measure practices.
