Childhood trauma is a major public health concern, yet its cognitive and educational consequences remain understudied in North Africa. This study examined 95 Algerian children aged 9–12 years, divided into trauma and non-trauma groups using Childhood Trauma Questionnaire cut-offs. Global cognition was assessed with a child-adapted Montreal Cognitive Assessment, and academic achievement with an Algerian adaptation of the Columbia Test of Educational Achievement. Trauma-exposed children showed significantly lower cognitive and academic scores than their non-trauma peers. Higher trauma scores predicted poorer outcomes after controlling for age and sex. Findings support trauma-informed screening, school-based intervention, and longitudinal research on resilience in Algerian youth. Policy implications are outlined.
