?national Sovereignty In The Face Of The Digital Challenge: Who Controls The Internet? Is Our Privacy Protected And Guaranted

Authors : Addane Nabila .

Abstract

The world is witnessing a fundamental shift in the concept of national sovereignty. Faced with the unprecedentedly rapid and escalating digital challenge, national sovereignty, in its classical sense based on the monopoly of power within defined geographical boundaries, is no longer sufficient to understand the balance of power in the digital age. We are now confronted with a new and profound sovereignty gap that has gradually stripped the state of its control over cyberspace. The struggle for governance and power is now a three-way contest between nation-states, transnational technology companies, and the global tech community. This struggle has reduced state sovereignty to an attempt to control it through digital walls and data localization legislation. Therefore, this study seeks to explore the implications of national sovereignty in the digital age, and the fate of our data and privacy. We question whether our data has become a commodity or remains protected, and who truly controls the lifeblood of modern civilization. Where does our privacy stand amidst this battle?
