This article highlights the importance of documentary research as a scientific method that supports knowledge construction and the understanding of information behavior. Using an analytical-inductive approach, the study compares major theoretical models, including those of Wilson, Kuhlthau, and Ellis, alongside Dervin’s Sense-Making and Savolainen’s ELIS. The findings show that documentary research generates knowledge through interpretive engagement with documents rather than mere data collection. They also demonstrate that emotional and social factors significantly shape researchers’ information-seeking behavior, affirming that information experience is a holistic human process extending beyond the cognitive domain. The study therefore recommends incorporating these non-cognitive dimensions into methodological training.
