Algeria’s Carbon Footprint Under The Energy Transition Toward 2050

Authors : Zenad Souheyla .

Abstract

This study aims to assess Algeria’s carbon footprint within the context of its energy transition over the period 1990–2023 and to project its potential trajectories toward 2050. Using ARDL and ECM models, it tests the (EKC) hypothesis and develops three scenarios: baseline, moderate transition, and accelerated transition. The results reveal that fossil fuels remain the main source of emissions, while faster renewable integration and improved energy efficiency could significantly reduce emissions. The study recommends adopting an ambitious clean-energy policy.
