Abstract: Incarnation in Christianity today means that Christ is God who took on a human body and lived among people to accomplish their salvation. Among the most prominent sources of this doctrine are the writings of the Fathers, especially Irenaeus of Lyons. Accordingly, the problem of our research lies in the following questions: What is Irenaeus’s concept of the Incarnation? And does it correspond to what the Church declares today? The study aims to clarify Irenaeus’s understanding of the Incarnation and to highlight the extent to which the Church has preserved the doctrine as it was handed down from the Fathers. The research includes an introduction and a conclusion, in addition to two sections: the first addresses the general background of the study, while the second deals with the Incarnation of Christ in Irenaeus’s teachings. The study concludes that Irenaeus affirms the Incarnation of Christ and considers him the highest of creatures, yet inferior to God the Father in essence. Thus, Irenaeus’s concept of the Incarnation differs from that affirmed in contemporary Christian theology. KEYWORDS: Theology, Incarnation, Irenaeus
