The May 8, 1945 Massacres And The Revolutionary Current In The Algerian National Movement: A Critical Analysis Of Historical Testimonies

Abstract

Article abstract: During World War II and the criminal massacres that followed May 8, 1945, the Algerian people witnessed a surge of momentum and political awareness foreshadowing self-determination. This article traces the development of national political activity, with a focus on the clandestine work of militants from the Algerian People’s Party (PPA), who embodied the revolutionary current within the Friends of the Manifesto and Liberty. Drawing on testimonies of historical actors, it highlights the responses of this current when it attempted to extend the revolution after the massacres. Although this project failed, revolutionary enthusiasm persisted among the elite. They worked to reorganize party cells, train militants, and provide arms. These efforts laid the groundwork for the nucleus of the National Liberation Army. That nucleus would later spearhead the November 1954 Revolution.Key words : Revolutionary Current; National Movement; May 8, 1945 Massacres ملخص المقال: خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية وما أعقبها من عمليات إجرامية بعد الثامن ماي 1945، حيث يقف عند ذلك الاندفاع والوعي الذي عاشه الشعب الجزائري أثناء الحرب والذي كان ينبئ بقرب تقرير المصير. يتتبع المقال التطور الذي عرفه النشاط السياسي الوطني، خاصة النشاط السري لمناضلي حزب الشعب الجزائري الذين مثلوا التيار الثوري داخل حركة أحباب البيان والحرية. ويستعرض، من خلال شهادات بعض الفاعلين التاريخيين، ردود فعل هذا التيار حين حاول تعميم الثورة للرد على المجازر. ورغم فشل المشروع بقي الحماس الثوري حيًّا في أوساط النخبة التي بذلت جهودًا لإعادة تنظيم الخلايا. كما عملت على تدريب المناضلين وتسليحهم لتقوية العمل الثوري. وقد مهدت هذه الجهود الطريق نحو تكوين النواة الأولى لجيش التحرير الوطني. وهي النواة التي ستقود لاحقًا ثورة نوفمبر 1954. كلمات المفتاحية: التيار الثوري; الحركة الوطنية; مجازر 8 ماي 1945
