Role Of The School Environment In Encouraging Environmental Awareness Among Students – From Teachers’ Perspectives Field Study On Selected Primary Schools In Akbou Municipality

Abstract

The research paper examines the role of the school environment in fostering environmental awareness among students. It focuses on two strategies: integrating ecological topics into educational curricula and implementing practical, field-based environmental activities. The study employs a comprehensive survey method, collecting data through a structured questionnaire. The research is conducted in two schools—Martyrs Brothers Claude School and Mouloud Feraoun School in Akbou—and involves 30 teachers from various educational levels. The findings indicate that including environmental content in curricula motivates students to adopt responsible behaviours and develop positive attitudes towards nature. Additionally, participation in environmental activities enhances students’ appreciation of the natural world and broadens their ecological knowledge
