How Did The Content Of Turkish Press Concerning Algeria Change During The Phases Of The Algerian Revolution? A Reading Of Some Newspapers

Authors : Ameur Hadi . Benammar Mostapha .

Abstract

This study, centered on the question of how the content of Turkish press coverage of the Algerian issue changed during the phases of the Algerian Revolution, offers a critical analytical reading of the main themes addressed by Turkish newspapers during that period. The research aims to reveal the distinctions that characterized the Turkish stance—both official and unofficial as reflected in the written press—towards the Algerian Revolution. The study analyzed the main newspapers published at the time (government, opposition, Islamist, and leftist), classifying their coverage into three main orientations: support, reservation/caution, and opposition. The study revealed a set of fundamental differences in the discourse of these newspapers, which can be attributed to a number of prevailing geopolitical and ideological tensions during that crucial phase, where the influence of commitment to Western alliances emerged on the one hand, counterbalanced by the weight of the shared historical heritage between Algeria and Turkey on the other. The study adopted a critical analytical methodology through qualitative analysis of the press content to evaluate the trends of Turkish media during the Algerian Revolution.
