Exploring The Opportunities And Challenges Of The Implementation Of English Medium Instruction (emi) In Higher Education: Case Study Of Tahri Mohammed University Of Bechar

Abstract

As globalization continues to shape education, English Medium Instruction (EMI) has emerged as a significant pedagogical approach in higher education. The current study aims at investigating the opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of EMI at Tahri Mohammed University of Bechar, focusing on its impact on students' language proficiency and academic performance. Methodologically, the research employs a qualitative method approach, using two instruments, including class observation with two (2) teachers, and an interview with eight (8) teachers at Tahri Mohammed University of Bechar to gather insights on their experiences and perceptions of the implementation of EMI in the educational field.The study's findings reveal that while the implementation of English Medium Instruction in higher education has many opportunities for enhancing language skills and global competitiveness, it also entails challenges that require thoughtful strategies and must be addressed.
