With the development of tools related to Geographic Information Systems (GIS), these systems are no longer limited to spatial visualization platforms, but have become integrated analytical tools supported by databases that allow for the collection and analysis of data obtained from archaeological excavations as well as historical documents and references. In this context, the team led by Pr. Cees W. Passchier established a database of archaeological hydraulic sites in Algeria, covering more than 100 locations and approximately 77 potential water channel routes. Although this database mainly represents a cartographic synthesis with limited descriptive information, it provides a solid foundation for the comprehensive documentation of hydraulic networks across Algeria. This includes the analysis of channel design, longitudinal profiles, average gradients, and the selection of water sources, with the aim of enhancing our understanding of Roman hydraulic engineering and enabling comparisons with contemporary techniques used in Europe. Preliminary analyses focused on selected sites such as the Cherchell (Caesarea) aqueduct, the Bades aqueduct, and the Tahouda water supply system. Longitudinal profile studies conducted using ArcGIS demonstrate the designers’ advanced knowledge of surface topography and water flow gradients. However, further fieldwork is required to complete the dataset, particularly regarding water sources, construction materials, flow sections, and transition structures, in order to enable flow modeling and discharge estimation.
