This study aims to explore the possibility of examining social media websites through theories that focused on all aspects of traditional media and communication. To achieve this, the Uses and Gratifications Theory was applied, attempting to identify new dimensions of the theory within the digital environment compared to its traditional counterpart. This was done by examining usage habits, intensity, motivations, and gratifications derived from this use. The research was conducted on a sample of students from the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences at Algiers University 3. The findings indicated that the motivations of Algerian university students for using these websites are primarily practical and functional. Students do not browse university websites for entertainment or curiosity, but rather for specific purposes that support their academic path.
