This paper explores the linguistic, cultural, and pragmatic challenges involved in translating Greek gastronomic cultural elements into English. Greek cuisine, shaped by millennia of historical and social influences, constitutes a complex semiotic system that resists transparent linguistic transfer. Through an interdisciplinary framework drawing on translation studies, cultural anthropology, and food studies, the paper analyses key issues such as cultural specificity, lexical gaps, untranslatability, and audience-oriented translation strategies. It discusses how genre, purpose, and communicative context influence translators’ decisions, and evaluates strategies including borrowing, explicitation, substitution, and paratextual support. By providing case studies and offering practical recommendations, the paper underscores the translator’s role as a cultural mediator and highlights the ethical considerations inherent in representing Greek gastronomic culture for global audiences.
