In contemporary Algerian literature, identity is not a marginal concern but a recurring theme that intersects with history, politics, and cultural diversity. The novel, in particular, has become a medium through which writers probe questions of selfhood and belonging, often exposing the strain between the individual and the community in the face of shifting realities. Rather than treating identity as fixed, fiction allows it to appear as a moving, unfinished construct, one that stretches beyond familiar boundaries toward broader horizons. Seen from this perspective, Watan Taa El-Obour (Homeland of the Crossing “T”) by Warda Zerguine offers more than a narrative of events. It provides a window onto the transformations of Algerian society in its historical, cultural, and social dimensions. The novel engages directly with the question of identity and belonging, while also drawing attention to the symbols and meanings that sustain them in a present moment full of challenges. Through its characters and the conflicts they embody, it reflects national struggle, cultural heritage, and social change, all of which have contributed to shaping Algerian identity. The aim of this study is to examine how the novel addresses these issues and to consider what they reveal about Algeria today.
