Authors : Firlas Mohammed . Tessa Ahmed .

Abstract

The contributions of SMEs to economic development are well documented in various studies. However, in transition countries such as Algeria, this development may be hindered, notably because SMEs face difficulties in accessing external financing, which is often essential for business expansion and innovation. Our study aims to identify the determinants of access to financing for SMEs in the Algerian context. Methodologically, we adopt a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative data from interviews with bankers and quantitative data collected from an analysis of loan applications submitted by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to six Algerian public banks (BDL, CPA, BEA, BNA, CNEP and BADR). The logistic regression analysis is employed to identify key variables influencing credit approval decision. The results obtained through were used to define a basic model that will be validated with bankers.
