Documentary Credit: Practices And Issues An Extra View On Algerian Law

Abstract
This paper aims to explore the practices and issues related to the letter of credit (LC), the latter is characterized by the dual principles of autonomy and strict compliance. The law on documentary credits is highly controversial as it attempts to balance two competing principles upholding the autonomy of documentary credits and preventing fraud and money laundering. The objective of the study is to show the usefulness of the Letter of Credit by the banks in accordance with strict compliance of the documents, it also demonstrates the pure letter of credit that has become a mode of the guarantee of the transaction all over the world in international sale of goods, However, the risks of fraud and violations of legislation and regulations relating to exchange and capital movements in Algerian law should not be ignored.
